Rules and Conditions of Entry
- Competition Judging Date: Wednesday 15th July, 2026
- Entries:

- Only financial members of WSQ Inc. are eligible to enter the Competition.
- A Digital Entry Form or a printed Entry Form is to be received no later than Wednesday 25th June, at 5pm. Printed Entry Form must be in the designated box in the Library at Pine St.
- Entries will be initially placed in the Level nominated by each Member and then cross checked against the Level in the WSQ Membership Database.
- A maximum of two (2) items may be entered in any one Category.
- Competition pieces are to be delivered to WSQ Auditorium by 12.00 noon on Wednesday, 8th July, clearly labelled with the entrant’s name.
- Competition pieces must have been completed in the period 24 months prior to the Competition Judging Date (15th July, 2026)
- Members must confirm that their entry/entries are genuinely their own work and NO physical assistance has been received in the making of any part of the entry/entries.
- Levels

- Advanced – has previously placed (1st, 2nd, 3rd) as an intermediate entry in same category

- Intermediate – has previously placed (1st, 2nd, 3rd) as an introductory entry in same category

- Introductory – no previous placing in same category and those who have never entered the WSQ Competition.
Members who believe they should compete at a level other than that applying to them (Advanced, Intermediate or Introductory) should contact the Competition Convenor. Members can check their current Competition level by contacting the WSQ Secretary.
In the interests of being fair and equitable to all entrants, the Competition Convenor reserves the right to assign a new entrant’s Competition level and may request a preview of the items being submitted before deciding on the appropriate level.
- Judging
- Each entry (other than those in Category M – Pyrography) will be judged by two (2) judges with each awarding a maximum of 100 points each according to the following Criteria: Workmanship 40 points, Finish (including tool and sanding marks) 30 points, Design 20 points, Degree of Difficulty 10 points. With the final result being the average of the 2 judges.
- Judges will provide comments against each of the Criteria.
- Judges will be unaware of the entrant’s name, experience or level.
- Judges’ comments for each entry and point scores will be provided to entrants.
- Category M – Pyrography – will be judged by one judge only. Entries will be judged on the following Criteria: Composition & Design 30 points, Originality & Creativity 30 points, Quality of Execution 30 points, Presentation 10 points.
- Awards

- Awards will be recognised by the presentation of Certificates.
- First place will be awarded in all categories and for all levels for which there are entries, providing that the entry’s score exceeds 85% for Advanced, 80% for Intermediate and 75% for the Introductory level.
- Second and third place will be awarded in all Categories and for all Levels for which there are at least four (4) entries providing that the entry’s score is at least 80% for Advanced, 75% for Intermediate and 70% for the Introductory level.
- Highly Commended Certificates will be awarded to those entries that are within 10% of the score of the first prize in the Category and Level, provided the percentage total for that item exceeds 80% for Advanced, 75% for Intermediate, and 70% for the Introductory level.
- Promotion
Advancement to a higher level in a Category will be determined by achieving 1st, 2nd or 3rd Placement in that Category in the previous Competition.
- Conditions of Entry
WSQ Inc. reserves the right to photograph any, or all, of the Competition entries for the purpose of preserving a record, to publish in any media publication, to exhibit on the Society’s website, Facebook, Instagram and/or to make prints available for sale with WSQ Inc Management Committee approval.
The final decisions on any matters relating to the Competition rest with the Competition Convenor.
